Confusing Times

Do not let this blog title fool you. I am by NO means writing anything political. Rather, I'm referring to the recent Texas weather that has got me like:

But seriously, what do you wear in this situation? Our average January day is somewhere between 65-80 degrees. The forecast for next week includes highs of 76! So I'm here with some solutions to your weird weather quandary.

Darling Denim: I am obsessed with jazzing up an outfit with a great denim jacket or chambray button-down. It can keep you warm during a chilly morning (or an arctic office like my workplace). Or as the temperature rises, you can tie it around your waist to channel your inner 90s gal.

Sweaters that Don't Stifle: A beautiful short-sleeved sweater will help you feel seasonally appropriate, without causing you to lose your weight in sweat. All of my staple sweaters are White House Black Market, they are beautiful and great quality (I've had my favorites for at least 5 years now).

That Little Knit Dress: The possibilities with a great knit dress are endless. I love that they can lend the feel of winter without bogging you down by unnecessary layers. SheIn has some great affordable options right now (the ones below were just a few of my favorites)!

All of the Boots: You have so many choices: from military to riding, cowboy to over-the-knee (and don't you dare forget the ankle boot)! No matter the style, a great boot can make any look more chic. And for all of us sad Texans, they bring us that much closer to our unfulfilled winter daydreams. For these recent warmer days, I love to rock a neutral, suede bootie.

How have you been dressing for this unseasonable Texas weather?

Saving Money, Staying Chic

Hello lovelies,

I'm writing this because one of my 2016 goals is having a monthly "Fun Budget" (there has to be a better name for it. I'm open to suggestions, please help me out!) and not spending more than that amount on frivolous items, for any reason. No cheating or negotiating with myself until I give in and buy it, just setting a monthly limit and sticking to it. All that being said... I burned through my Fun Budget for January before we even hit the mid-month mark (and at this point, I've gone over it... le sigh). So, I clearly need a little help in this department. But in the hopes of helping out anyone else who's trying to be budget-conscious in 2017, below are a few tips I have for staying chic despite shopping on a budget (ok, someone please stop me from typing budget one more time).

1. Shop Resale: Particularly in San Antonio, getting your clothing allowance to go far can be so fun when you're open to some secondhand purchases. My favorite local resale shops are Clothes Mentor, Thrift Town, and of course, Goodwill. Those have to be my most visited, but I'm curious to hear about any hidden gems you love! Be sure to comment below and let me know your favorites.

2. Get Creative: This is one of my favorite ways to find new looks without spending any money. Just take a few hours one evening and go through your closet as though you're shopping, eyeballing the items you haven't worn in a while. Try out new combinations (skirts + tops/ dresses + sweaters/ tops + scarfs) you've never worn before. It sounds so silly & simple, but every time I take an evening to play around with clothes I've forgotten about, I put together at least 3-4 new looks that get me so excited.

3. Be Disciplined: This is clearly the hardest part for me. I am very much a spender not a saver. I am jealous of my budget-conscious friends reading this right now, scratching their head at my struggle. So... to be honest, this tip is more of an open-ended reminder to myself. This tip is a prayer request. I don't have it down yet, but I will. "Lord, help me as I seek to be disciplined in all areas of my life, not just my finances. 'But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.' " Galatians 5:22-23

Things Eye Love

I want to talk to you about my latest obsession: eye palettes! I've been really into makeup and makeup tutorials for about the past 5-6 months, and my sweet hubby even bought me a makeup box subscription for Christmas: BoxyCharm (I'm full on obsessed, I cannot wait to get my January box, my December box was so great)! So, while it's a close tie which I'm more into at any given moment, finding the most dazzling highlighter or creating a bomb eye look, I decided to take this time to share the palettes which I've been having so much fun with the past month! Just click the image for product details/to purchase.

Lorac Unzipped Gold Eyeshadow Palette: If you want the most show-stopping metallic shimmers, stop what you're doing and buy this palette! Bonus: the 4 matte shades in this palette are beautiful too. The only downside- buying this will convince you that you need every Lorac palette ever made (I've already spent all of my "Fun Money" for the month of January! Waah!).

Tartelette in Bloom: This palette has 9 matte shades and 3 shimmer shades. This brand is just my favorite makeup brand period. Cognizant of what's going inside it, while never delivering a product that can't hold up against the competition. And with this palette they've given us everything we need to create the most gorgeous smoked-out eye.

Pure Cosmetics Buff Collection Eyeshadow Palette: guys, this dupe of the Urban Decay Naked3 Palette is just gorgeous. I received this in my December BoxyCharm, and I cannot stop using it to create dreamy lavender eye looks. Its 12 rosy shades make me happy every time I pop it open.

Now, full disclosure: I have never used an Urban Decay palette. There are two reasons for that: 1) Holy cow they're espensive! 2) I try to be pretty mindful of ingredients and I have never seen any reviews about Urban Decay that mention it as an ingredient-conscious brand. This Pure Cosmetics palette however is formulated without parabens, triclosans, silicone, or fragrance. And BONUS: it's never tested on animals.

All of that to say, while it's obvious this product is a dupe, I can't really tell you how it compares to the Urban Decay version. Is it more pigmented? Does it have less fall-out? I have no idea. But I do love that it comes from a brand that pays attention to more than just those two things (aka what ingredients I'm putting on my eyelids!).

That's all for now loves! What's your favorite eye palette?

Staying Resolute

blahblahblah bloggery jargon, new year buzzwords, new year new me, etc. etc.

These two people constantly inspire me to be better, to grow, improve and never stop learning.

These two people constantly inspire me to be better, to grow, improve and never stop learning.

Ok, now that we have that out of the way we can get started. I haven't been posting much the past 2 weeks, because I've been busy working on all that I'm about to share. I've taken advantage of January 1 to come up with some new goals for myself. I haven't made New Years Resolutions since high school, and feel a bit silly sharing these but here I am. My pastor also preached a phenomenal sermon two Sundays ago about how sharing goals will help you stay accountable and ultimately achieve those goals. So here goes:

1. My Fitness: I have never needed to work out to be an ideal weight, my metabolism has always been beyond a blessing, and I have never felt comfortable talking about weight because I want it to be clear that I appreciate the body I have. But real talk: every single woman in the world has some body image issues. Period. It's just part of being a woman. And as far as my weight and metabolism, pregnancy changed my body in a big way. All of that to say, I have fitness goals and I'm excited to make them happen. I know I can achieve this first one: I have the 7 Minute Workout Challenge app on my phone (sadly only used perhaps 3 times in 2016 after purchasing), and I have decided to work out using this app for 7 minutes a day, 7 days a week, for 7 weeks. While slightly arbitrary (there's no definitive reason for working out 7 minutes a day for 49 days other than it sounds cool), I want to push myself to exercise more regularly. I also know it's a totally realistic, feasible goal. Shoot I look at social media for longer than 7 minutes a day! I don't have a weight goal, just the goal of losing a dress size so I can fit back into everything in my wardrobe (of course fashion is my underlining goal here!). And ultimately I always want to be able keep up with my already rambunctious little boy.

2. My Budget: Not sure how much to elaborate on this one other than: I need to spend less money. I have set for myself two spending limits. One for fun, meaning anything that I don't need (i.e. makeup and clothes) and one for work lunches. Looking back on 2016 I realized that I spent a lot of money eating out during the work week. As a working mom it's easy to be lazy and eat out every single day of the week, but I want to make an intentional effort to spend no more than the monthly budget I allocated

3. My Words: I have decided to be far more intentional about what I say. I want to be sure that anything I say about someone else, I would be more than ready to say to their face. While my reasons for creating this goal are personal, let's just say in 2016 I was reminded in a very real and painful way that words have huge impact.

So, what are your goals for 2017?

90s Trends I Love

Happy New Year! Bring on the change: I am ready for it! Today's post is all about a resurfacing trend that can bring some much needed change to your 2017 wardrobe. I'm talking about The 90s.

I mean, do you not love every single one of these outfits? WELL THEN YOU'RE CRAZY!

I mean, do you not love every single one of these outfits? WELL THEN YOU'RE CRAZY!

There are so many amazing 90s trends (if you don't know what I'm talking about, stop whatever you are doing right now and go watch Clueless. Seriously.) and they are SO fun for me to get behind, particularly in comparison with the nasty 80s. Or maybe I just flashback to my childhood and watching every Mary Kate and Ashley movie ever made. Those girls were so 90s it's not even funny. Whatever the reason, below are a few of my favorites as well as links to some great items right on trend.

Chokers: If you're a regular to my blog, you know I am currently obsessed. I have even had a co-worker comment, 'WOW, you've worn that necklace 3 days in a row!' Yepp. Not even scared to admit it.

Cropped Pants: full disclosure, I'm not 100% behind this one... ONLY because as a tall person, it's hard for me to pull them off. They come off looking a little silly, like I couldn't find pants that fit so I just gave up and bought some that would be a more appropriate length for my mother-in-love (she's 5'). But I love them for someone in the 5'5" - 5'9" range!

Plaid: Is there anything more 90s than plaid? I dove headfirst into this trend for Christmas and my sweet baby got to enjoy it right along with me! I'm pretty dang proud of the results:

My baby boy and I enjoying some 90s plaid together on Christmas day!

So help me out here, what 90s trends have I left off the list? Which ones are you excited to have back in your life? Let me know in the comments below!

Purses for Days

I recently had a conversation with a co-worker that I’ve been mulling over ever since, trying to decide my stance. The Subject: Purses. The Convo: how many we owned, and what's the rule for switching them out?

mg1RZTg (2).jpg

Seriously friends, why do we collect so many? So really this post is more of an open-ended question. I'm curious how often you switch out your bags. I don’t feel like I am the best at rockin’ a different fabulous purse every 2 months. I barely make time to shove a lipstick and my phone into whichever clutch best matches my accessories when headed to weddings/special events. It's never a priority to find the perfect clutch to go with the dress.

My lack of purse variety is a bit of a shame, because I have a ton. I have 2 gorgeous Kate Spades I've gotten just this year which I have worn maybe two weeks total. Le sigh. What a waste! Maybe that’s why I’ve never been super obsessed with buying tons of purses, because I feel like a pretty designer bag can be a wardrobe staple for 6-7 months. Am I crazy, practical or lazy? Let’s be real, I wouldn’t have lasted 2 weeks in the atmosphere of the Devil Wears Prada since half my fashion choices are made in less than 10 minutes while my baby is clamoring for attention and my husband is rushing me out the door to help keep me on time.

So, I’m kicking this one to you guys. How often do you change out your purse? Do you have a different purse staple in each neutral? Post your purse strategies in the comments below.

Beauty Roundup: Hits & Misses

Ok y'all it's been a hot minute since we've talked beauty, so I feel like it's a great time to catch up on all things makeup, hair, and skincare. Plus, don't lie, you galls are gonna be hitting up your local Ulta/Sephora after Christmas like a junkie runnin to their dealer! ha!

So here are my beauty hits and misses for the month of December, and all of them are linked below for ya. Check 'em out and let me know which you've tried in the comments below.

Parlor Moisturizing Sea Salt Spray: HIT. I cannot rave about this product enough! If you have naturally curly hair like me, this product is straight up magic. I use it between washes (I typically only wash my hair every 3-5 days) when my curls are starting to get a little limp and it adds bounce without any crunchiness or residue.

Anything Shea Moisture: HIT. Cruelty free, certified organic ingredients, sulfate free, paraben free, never tested on animals, and the list of goodness goes on! Right now I'm super into the African Black Soap Problem Skin Facial Wash and Scrub. Amazing at buffing my skin to make it radiant and oh-so soft.

Lorac PRO Matte Lip Color: MISS. Guys, this was so disappointing. I wanted to love it. It smells like rich cocoa heaven, and the color I found (tawny) is an amazing soft chocolate nude, but it really fell short. It does not apply easily or evenly and has absolutely zero staying power. Overall, not worth the ca$h.

RealTechniques Brush Set: JURY'S OUT. Can't lie, haven't actually tried this brush set yet, but I picked it up today at Walgreen's and CANNOT wait to try it out. I have seen several beauty vloggers using them, and they are even sold out on the RealTechniques website (sorry guys, but you can get notified when they're restocked).

A Girlfriends Gift Guide

If you're anything like me, every year you spend tons of time in December pondering each Christmas gift for the amazing women in your life. Well no more! I am here with a bag of tricks and a list of great ideas to save the day. I have compiled a list of great options for all the great ladies in your life.  You're welcome! So sit back, grab a cup of hot cocoa, and let me help you mark a few more items off your Christmas list this year.

For the Makeup Lover: The monthly beauty subscription Birchbox, will send your bestie a curated box of four to five samples of beauty, makeup, and hair products. Boxes are customized based on the recipient's style and beauty favorites! I received this as a gift two years ago from my beautiful mother-in-law and absolutely loved it.

For the Caffeine Addict: We all have those friends who can't function without their java, and a monthly coffee subscription is the perfect gift for them! Subscription boxes are so great because your friend/sister/mom/coworker will continue to love and enjoy this gift long after the tree and decorations are put away. Bedfellows Coffee Roasting Co (which I discovered through Etsy) has a 3 mo. and 6 mo. gifted subscription available!

For the #Trending Friend: One of the biggest trends this season is the choker game, and I am currently obsessed with every choker that Topshop has out right now. Below are a few of my favorites:

For the Low-Key Cat Lady in your life: check out these super cute cat gifts, that even a dog person such as myself can love! And Francesca's has even more cute cat items here.

What are you getting your bestie for Christmas? Comment below, I'd love some great new ideas!

Dressing for the Holidays

From office parties to festive friend gatherings, we all know how many cute outfits the holiday season requires. Le sigh. Usually I am oh-so-excited by this, but the busyness of late has gotten me panicked and throwing together my outfits last minute. Blech, I hate when fashion becomes a chore! So, to save you some time, below are a few of my favorite trends for the holidays, with links to purchase a few on-trend items below. And if anyone is wondering where the velvet is, it's in the past, along with neon, spandex and sweatbands.

1. Burgundy

I am in love with burgundy. Its rich, warm undertones scream luxury to me. I feel like I am in the minority when I think back to how much I loved the 2015 Pantone color of the year, Marsala (Pantone 18-1438). Seeing burgundy just evokes images of the theatre (gorgeous stage curtains), the warm colors of fall, and delicious wine.

2. Shimmer

Please Note: I said Shimmer. Can this trend be overdone? Of course. But I just can't deny the festive feel provided by a bit of shimmer and shine!

3. An Unexpected Color Choice

I had to throw this one in the mix. Probably because I wore a simple bright blue sheath dress to my husband's Christmas holiday party, and I guess I'm still sitting here trying to justify it. Ha! I loved the color, although I think I could have found a more flattering silhouette for myself. Alas, my last minute shopping trip yielded me little else. I tried to find the perfect rich, burgundy look or a great shimmer top, but in the end I chose an unexpected color as my statement. I also planned my outfit around the fact that I would be stuck in my winter coat most of the night. Every year, his office party has an inside/outside set-up and with the free booze outside we do a lot of outdoor mingling. Just keepin' it real y'all.

P.S. While writing this I noticed Ann Taylor is having an amazing sale right now: an extra 60% off Sale items (in store and online).

What are your favorite trends for the holidays?

Gratitude is Gorgeous

My beautiful aunt gave me a wonderful idea recently that I know I need to share with you. A list of gratitude. Her idea could not have come at a better time. I have been so weighed down lately with the stress of a busy workload, conflict in my family, the pressures I put on myself as a mommy, and just LIFE. So rather than finish the Christmas wish list I began working on earlier this week, I decided to stop and reflect on the many blessings in my life. After spending a day mulling these over, considering each of the things the Lord has blessed me with, I highly recommend creating a similar list as a journaling / personal growth assignment. I know that focusing on this list will multiply the joy in my heart this holiday season.

Mental Health: This is something I have slowly opened up about over time, and only when asked specifics about motherhood or my baby, but I have decided I need to share this part of my story. During the first 7-9 months of my baby's life, I dealt with some pretty serious postpartum depression. There were intensely dark moments which I wouldn't wish on anyone, and there was even some self-harm. In a period where everyone was looking in, asking me "Oh my goodness, don't you just love it?" or "Aren't you so in love with your baby?" I was battling extreme mood-swings that at several moments became as serious as suicidal thoughts. I was finally able to move past it after talking about it with my husband and seeking professional counseling.

I was so uncomfortable in my own skin when this was taken. Little did I know I would soon be so depressed as to wish for my miserable pregnancy back.

I was so uncomfortable in my own skin when this was taken. Little did I know I would soon be so depressed as to wish for my miserable pregnancy back.

And the reason I'm sharing this on my list of gratitude? Because I now see the beauty of days without dark and painful thoughts. And they truly are a gift to cherish. Enjoying a whole day, without escaping into fantasies or clinging to pain, that is something I pray I can stop and wholly appreciate. It has also helped me realize what a stigma surrounds mental health issues, how debilitating they can be, and how truly hard they are to talk about.

Jesus: I would not have the courage to discuss this issue, nor would I have the amazing continued support of my family, without the grace of God. While this is not a blog about faith or my relationship with Jesus, it is the basis of my life, so I cannot write without sharing that relationship with you. I am happy to discuss it more in the comments or via DM through my Facebook page, but what I have with the Lord -- the joy that a journey with Him brings -- that is what provides me with life and creative inspiration and keeps my world on its axis. Without Him and His Word, I am just another being flinging through space with no purpose or meaning.

Husband: This may be gag-worthy, so anyone squeamish should just skip ahead. Ha! But seriously, my husband goes out of his way to love and cherish me, and I pray I never take him or his tender heart for granted. He doesn't simply love me in the way that he receives love, he has taken the time to learn what I value and works hard to do those things for me. He is usually the one who speaks up if it's been more than a month since our last date night, he works 7 days a week to provide, and he consistently seeks wise counsel when problems arise in our family/house/lives. In exchange, he (usually) comes home to a sink full of dirty dishes, a living room cluttered in toys constantly (ok, this one I try to cut myself some slack for because I have an insanely energetic toddler. My living room probably won't be clean again for another 10 years), and a wife who prefers watching makeup tutorials to keeping the house organized. He is my hero, and I am beyond grateful for his presence in my life.

My absolute favorite. He fills my heart with so much joy.

My absolute favorite. He fills my heart with so much joy.

Family: As I mentioned earlier, I have been having conflict with a couple of family members right now, but even that conflict (as heart wrenching as it's been) has made me grateful. Because it has shown me clearly which family members respect me. It's also reminded me that love without quality time is nothing -- it's empty words. Love is action, and that has been proven to me tenfold this year. My current situation will help me love the ones in my life with greater intentionality and purpose. And I am beyond grateful that the Lord placed family in my life that goes out of their way to show me and my little family love. Oh, and the 2 cutest men in the world live under my roof!

Just looking at the smiles in this picture fills my heart with gratitude

Just looking at the smiles in this picture fills my heart with gratitude

Career: I love where I work, the amazing family culture in my office, and the fact that I’m working in a field that constantly challenges and excites me! Not only am I grateful for my job, but I'm grateful that Taylor and I have an affordable childcare option (Taylors grandmother and Taylors mom) where we can drop our sweet baby off and know that he's in great hands. Because I have peace of mind about my baby, I can be empowered to go to work every day and succeed.

The Best Bestie (my sister soulmate): I didn't even meet my best friend until I was 22, but I cannot imagine my life without her. She is beautiful, godly, so stable and reliable (qualities I so appreciate since I am often spontaneous at best and flighty at worst), and so loyal. She is my ride-or-die and I am so grateful the Lord led us to each other. And BONUS: she also shares her sisters with me!

Goofin' around on the best day ever with the bestie

Goofin' around on the best day ever with the bestie

In addition to all of the above, I am blessed daily with the following:

  • Health
  • Reliable Transportation
  • Clean Water
  • A Cozy Home (in a neighborhood with some of the best neighbors in the world)
  • An Extensive Wardrobe (and shoes galore!)

I am so grateful for all these and so much more! If you made it this far, first of all wow, but also thank you for allowing me to share my heart. Let me know what you're grateful for in the comments.

Makeup Monday

Let's talk makeup. I read an article recently all about the over-hyping of the smokey eye make up trend. Does anyone else want to stand up and applaud when they hear someone else say, "It's hype. You just like the idea, the perfectly-posed Instagram pictures." Cause I do! Don't get me wrong, I am all about incorporating drama into my makeup for the right time and occasion, but how often do we try out a style we're secretly not that excited about just because? Because peer pressure, because personal pressure, because Hollywood, because Vogue.

Well ladies, no more! There's just no reason to try out a beauty trend unless you are truly excited about it. So if you're on the fence about a certain look, do your research. There are more makeup tips, tricks, and tutorials online than our preteen minds could have ever fathomed. What a time to be alive!

Here are a few makeup tutorials I've been watching currently:

All that said, I am a total hypocrite and tried out the nude lip trend just because I saw a cute influencer rocking a nude lip I loved on Snapchat. And lucky for me, once I tried it out I loved it and became obsessed. Stila's Stay All Day Liquid LIpstick in Baci is my current favorite (it's a gorgeous mauvey nude), has amazing staying power, and should be on everyone's Christmas wishlist.

What's your favorite makeup look for the holidays? Do you follow any YouTube Makeup Artists? Let me know in the comments!

Now Trending: Sweaters

It's officially sweater weather in South Texas. I know, I know, anyone who lives north of Waco, Texas is rolling their eyes at me, because that's been true everywhere else for quite some time. But that's the beauty of South Texas: Indian Summers that stretch on and on.

But enough already! We want our riding boots, hot cocoa, and most importantly, cozy sweaters!

Shout-out to my bestie Grace for giving me the inspiration for this post! She recently rocked one of the coziest sweaters you can find: the boyfriend sweater, and reminded me of my love for all things knit, cowled, and cozy. There are so many fun sweater trends that I want to share with you beauties. So sit back, stoke the fire (or if you're like me, download the fireplace app), and read on. I hope the trends that follow (just a few of my favorites) provide you with some inspiration for your next winter wardrobe purchase.

Boyfriend Sweater: exactly what it sounds like. An excuse to wear all of those comfy, slouchy knits that swallow us up. Shout-out to the men and women who deem all things baggy to be once-again chic by adding the "boyfriend" label.

The Cold Shoulder: surprisingly no longer just a term that applies to how you handle those annoying first dates who keep calling. This winter trend is one of my favorites.

Cowl Necks: does it get any cozier? I think not! All the benefits of warmth a turtleneck offers, but about ten thousand times more flattering. This sweater from Express strikes the perfect balance of comfy and chic.

This Nordstrom beauty is the perfect comfy friend for a cold day. And BONUS: currently 35% off!

The Preppy Pullover: channel your inner Sporty Spice in a look that's right on trend with today's Athleisure craze. Très comfy! Love the look below from Vineyard Vines (via Nordstrom of course!)

I personally am not a fan of hoodies, turtlenecks or sweatshirts. Not simply for criticism's sake, but because I feel each of these add fluff to areas where most women don't want or need any extra bulk. But if you love any or all of those, keep wearing what makes you happy! That's what fashion is all about.

What's your favorite sweater trend?

Fashionable Eats: TacoArt

I am by no means a food blogger, but today I want to take the opportunity to share about a wonderful new restaurant in town! Because tacos (like fashion) inspire me.

Photo cred:  Genaro Design

It's called TacoArt and it's located in Quarry Village, near Trader Joe's. I was so excited to attend their Media Preview event and get one of the first tastes of their menu. Let me tell you: delicioso! I loved the tacos and salsa, but what really got me: the margs. Of course. But there are many more reasons this spot is a unique and exciting addition to our culinary community:

Kid-friendly Atmosphere: From the chalkboard wall ready for your kiddos' next masterpiece, to the brown paper table cloths with crayons provided, this restaurant is a great family spot. They also offer hosted birthday parties with planned activities like art projects, and a taco bar for each birthday boy or girl!

An Artistic Touch: Designed by local San Antonio artist Joseph Silvas, the artwork decorating the space is pop-art infused with classic Mexican cuisine elements! It provides a fun and funky backdrop for a great meal out.

Owned by Locals: The restaurant is locally owned and operated by Adriana Llano, who previously opened Urban Taco in the same location.

Now go forth and eat tacos!

All Choked Up

Dear Beauties,

I have been on the fence about the latest jewelry trend taking over my timelines: the choker. However I found an amazing steal at Ella Blue (a darling boutique in Boerne) this weekend and had to snatch these up.

Not a huge fan of leopard print but for such a trendy purchase I figured, why not a silly print?

Not a huge fan of leopard print but for such a trendy purchase I figured, why not a silly print?

So far I have only rocked the black and, surprising for someone with neck insecurities (sometimes I think I have the neck of a turtle), I love it! So here are my current thoughts RE: the choker.

PROS- draws attention to my neck, which is an area I'm starting to be fond of, especially since it remained completely unchanged throughout my pregnancy and post-partum journey. Also, I got to shop local on Small Business Saturday!

CONS- may seemingly cut off the fluidity of my neck (so perhaps not a trend to try for people self-conscious about having a short and/or disappearing neck?).

Below are a few cute chokers from Last Call: Neiman Marcus (all under $25). They have some great Cyber Monday deals happening now. Like this post if you're a fan of the choker trend!

My Holiday Beauty Haul (Drug Store Edition)

Happy Monday beauties!

I hope your weekend was fabulous and full of style. My weekend consisted of some thrifting (courtesy of Clothes Mentor: I highly recommend, one of my favorite go-to shops), a great date night with my love, and the best couch potato day ever with my sweet baby. Let's just say I'll have Sesame Street songs stuck in my brain for a few days- ha!

Wanted to take this time to share a few of my latest beauty finds with you. Here are some of my new makeup favorites for fall. BONUS: They all come in under $10.

  • L'Oreal Paris Infallible Pro Matte Gloss in Bare Attraction: recommended for those of you who want to try the matte lip trend, without investing a chunk of money in Kylie Jenner's makeup venture.
I actually wish I had gone one shade darker, this shade is very similar to my natural lip color.

Praising the Pencil (Skirt)

Dear Beauties,

Let’s get basic. I want to discuss the most essential, timeless piece to have in your business casual work wardrobe: the perfect pencil skirt. I could probably write poems about this fashion staple. A) Because I’m a dork B) Because I love feeling feminine when headed to a business meeting that I know will inevitably be dominated by men and C) Can I say – they just make me feel good? Ok, I will! Pencil skirts make me feel the way Peggy Olson looked in her infamous Mad Men stroll through the office. (while I don’t and never will smoke, watching her swag in that scene ALMOST made me want to start). My favorite pencil skirts have been purchased at White House Black Market (of course), Nordstrom and Target. Lucky for me, none of my go-to brands break the bank. Lucky for you, I share!

So here are a few that I’m super into for the holidays (click the image to purchase):

Traveling in Style

It's been a hot minute since we've talked, and I've missed you! And while I'm catching up on Project Runway, I'm inspired to talk fashion. I want to share a few travel tips with you guys, because I need to share what has consumed me the past two weeks: traveling/prepping for travel/recuperating from travel.

Vacation highlights from my recent trip to San Diego with my sweet family (featuring my two favorite outfits of the trip, of course)!

Vacation highlights from my recent trip to San Diego with my sweet family (featuring my two favorite outfits of the trip, of course)!

So here's what got me through my first cross-country air travel with a 1-year-old:

  1. Lists: JT and I both had our own packing lists. JT's was compiled after much internet research to ensure I had everything I could possibly need for a baby away from home (phew! too bad nothing on my list could help him sleep better in our hotel room). My list was a breakdown of what I would wear each day (with one extra outfit just in case I changed my mind, of course).
  2. A few key wardrobe pieces: namely, my two newest burgundy pieces from WHBM. Before we left I picked up this gorgeous burgundy duster (which was wonderful during the chilly San Diego mornings and evenings), and a divine burgundy peasant dress. And BONUS: they are currently having their Friends and Family Sale (just use Code 60745 at checkout)!
  3. My greatest make-up staple: Tarte's Clean Slate Timeless Smoothing Primer. I cannot travel without it. Not only does it help my make-up stay all day, but it gives me incredible shine control which is a MUST for my oily skin.
  4. Boots: The best walk-all-day-THEN-walk-to-dinner-and-drinks-after, shoe ware that there ever was. One of the reasons fall is my favorite season: boots are so classic and effortless, but can add the perfect touch to any outfit. I own a pair of classic black and brown riding boots that are so old I couldn't find them anywhere online if I tried, but here are some similar:

That's all for now loves! What would you like to see on the blog? I'd love to hear from you! XOXO

Perfect in Ponte

Dear Beauties,

One brand you will hear me praise often is White House Black Market. I am obsessed with their clothing. Working there also helped me support myself as a poor college student, so of course they have a special place in my heart. But besides that, their clothing is awesome: timeless styles and high quality. Every piece I’ve purchased there inevitably becomes one of my work staples – with the exception of some items I am still trying to squeeze back into post-maternity! Their pants all come in Petite, Regular, and Long, which as a tall girl, is super important. They are one of the few places I can confidently purchase pants and know A) they will fit and B) they are made to last. I always know I will get my money’s worth when shopping there.

One basic work wardrobe staple I HIGHLY recommend (of course, from #WHBM) is their ponte pants. Not joking, these pants will rock your world. Yes, you can look professional and feel comfortable! Huzzah! Hooray! Rejoice! Let the frolicking in the street begin! Ha! Maybe I’m over exaggerating the excitement of such a concept, but for me this deserves some celebration since I live in work wear 5 days a week. That’s about 260 days a year.

My most recent ponte purchase was the Ponte Slim Pants in Black and the Ponte Slim Ankle Pants in Burgundy (I’ve never owned red work pants, and I might have felt some giddiness when ordering- don’t judge!). I have already rocked the black pants, but the ankle pants I’m not so sure about. I’ve never owned ankle pants in my life, and it’s a bit of a struggle for me to embrace the fact that I’m intentionally wearing pants that are too short (since I spent my entire puberty pulling down pants that I was seemingly outgrowing by the minute). I’ve yet to decide if I will keep or return. Regardless, had to share about them, because trust me, you need a pair!

Eek! These already sold out, because they truly are awesome, but if you click the image, you can find some equally spectacular ponte legwear.

First Lady Lookbook

Following the Presidential debate last night, I have decided that my campaign-season internet is far too crowded with negative vibes and hateful speech. Time to clear all of that away, and focus on something much more light-hearted and 100% less likely to make my husband's blood pressure sky rocket: the fashion of America's royalty. So today's post is all about the best FLOTUS looks of the past century (in my ever so humble opinion).

Without further ado,  here are 4 of my all-time favorite first lady looks. And below each first lady's classic ensemble are some similar looks to shop! Click the link and add these looks to your closet so that this Election Day, you can sleep easy, knowing that no matter who wins, you will be sailing through the next four years in style.

Enjoy! And please save your political commentary for Facebook.

1) Jackie Kennedy: need I say more? Her name is synonymous with style.

Because we all know that the jumpsuit is the power suit of the millennial.

2) Laura Bush: full of style and grace (side note: I want to be Laura Bush when I grow up).

The baby blue accents on this are what make this look really sing. This outfit is beyond gorgeous; almost as beautiful as the lovely First Lady wearing it!

3) Michelle Obama: there is no doubt our current FLOTUS has style.

While I am admittedly not the biggest fan of her husband's policies, Michelle has always dressed to stun.

4) Nancy Reagan: eternally elegant.

I had to include 2 images for this look to best share the details. They are what make this dress truly fabulous. The color, the pleats, the bow: a trifecta of fashion goodness. Need I say more?
